The Ultimate House Cleaning Checklist (Room by Room)

July 2026
By Grace, Anita & Linda

After cleaning hundreds of Denver homes, we've learned that a good checklist is the difference between spinning your wheels and actually finishing. Here's the room-by-room routine we use — the same one that keeps a home consistently spotless instead of lurching between “just cleaned” and “disaster zone.”

How to use this: the lists below are your weekly maintenance clean. The “deep-clean extras” at the end are the every-few-months tasks that keep buildup from ever taking hold.

Whole-Home (Every Room)

  • Dust surfaces, shelves, and decor top to bottom
  • Wipe light switches, door handles, and other high-touch spots
  • Vacuum carpets and rugs; mop hard floors
  • Empty trash and reset each room to tidy
  • Spot-clean mirrors and interior glass

Kitchen

  • Clear and wipe all counters and backsplash
  • Clean stovetop, and wipe exterior of appliances
  • Scrub and sanitize the sink; shine the faucet
  • Wipe cabinet fronts and handles
  • Sweep and mop the floor, corners included

Bathrooms

  • Scrub and disinfect toilet, tub, and shower
  • Clean glass doors (in Denver, tackle hard-water film early)
  • Wipe counters, sink, and fixtures
  • Polish the mirror streak-free
  • Restock paper goods; mop the floor

Bedrooms & Living Areas

  • Make beds and fluff pillows; change linens as needed
  • Dust nightstands, dressers, and electronics
  • Tidy surfaces and return items to their place
  • Vacuum, including under the bed and along edges

Deep-Clean Extras (Every Few Months)

  • Inside the oven, fridge, and microwave
  • Baseboards, trim, and door frames
  • Light fixtures, ceiling fans, and air vents
  • Behind and under moveable furniture
  • Window sills, tracks, and interior glass

Not sure which of these belong in a routine clean versus a deep clean? Our deep vs. standard cleaning guide breaks it down.

A Denver Note: Plan for Dust

Our dry, high-altitude climate means dust settles faster than in most places. If surfaces look hazy within a few days of cleaning, that's normal here — it's usually a sign to bump your frequency up a notch. Many Denver homes do best on a bi-weekly rhythm.

Rather hand the list to someone else?

We'll run this entire checklist — and the deep-clean extras — with the same trusted cleaner every visit. One flat price, everything included.
